Queen Anne’s Mural is inspired by the peonies, carnations, and roses in the artwork of the renowned Italian born painter Antonio Verrio, who was commissioned by the Queen to complete her Drawing Room at Hampton Court Palace in 1703. Originally built for Queen Mary II, the Queen’s Drawing Room sits within Hampton Court Palace. It was an area of entertainment, where guests would drink, play games and be merry. This suite seeks to capture that sense of joy through its vibrant colours and floral motifs. On her accession to the throne, Queen Anne commissioned the leading 18th century Italian-born artist Antonio Verrio to complete the Drawing Room in 1705.
