The British landscape has long been, and continues to be, a source of inspiration for Boodles. From rolling hills and windswept coastlines to changing seasons and shifting light, The Poetry of Landscape collection celebrates the beauty of the natural world through four jewellery suites: Earth, Flora, Rock and Water. Created in 2017, the collection reflects both the places that inspire Boodles and the ever evolving relationship between nature, art and design.
The Poetry Of Landscape
The British landscape
The Story
Boodles’ Poetry of Landscape collection explores the character of Britain's countryside and coastline,
from the dramatic cliffs of Dorset to the gardens of East Sussex and the Yorkshire Dales. Through the
four suites, the collection captures the colours, textures and rhythms of the landscape, interpreting
familiar scenes through contemporary jewellery.
The Inspiration
First-hand experiences of the British countryside inspired the collection and Boodles designers were
influenced by the work of early British Modern artists including Paul Nash, Edward Bawden and Eric
Ravilious. Their ability to capture atmosphere, form and a sense of place informed the collection's
use of colour, composition and abstraction, translating British landscape into jewellery.
Special Stones
Gemstones were carefully chosen to reflect the colours and changing light of the British landscape.
Soft greens, muted blues and warm pinks evoke foliage, water, sky and blossom, while brilliant-cut
diamonds introduce movement and contrast throughout the collection.
Behind The Design
Each of the four suites explores a different aspect of the landscape. Earth reflects rolling fields and
cultivated farmland, Flora celebrates Britain's gardens and wildflowers, Rock draws on ancient cliffs
and rugged coastlines, while Water captures the movement and reflections of rivers, streams and
the sea.
Heritage
Created in 2017, The Poetry of Landscape reflects a theme that has long shaped Boodles' design
philosophy: finding inspiration in the British landscape. Photographer Martin Morrell was
commissioned to document the countryside that inspired the collection, with his images forming an
integral part of its presentation and now providing the backdrop to this archive display.
Craftsmanship
From intricate gemstone settings to sculptural precious metalwork, each piece required exceptional
craftsmanship to bring to life Boodles designers vision. Every detail was carefully considered to balance colour, movement and wearability, resulting in a collection that is both expressive and enduring.
“Our creative approach is to find a balance between something that is relevant today but that also has elements of enduring beauty. To achieve this, we not only need to have an extensive design vocabulary but also need to be intuitive and receptive to visual clues in the world outside our studio. Designers tend to be highly sensitive by nature, and continually make connections between different aspects of art and design – be that from an exhibition, a film or architecture – and often there is a resonance between our work and that of our colleagues in other fields.”
