Grand National Trophy 2026

Boodles is delighted to have designed the Randox Grand National trophy for a second year running. This opportunity, born from a shared passion for racing between Randox, Boodles and The Jockey Club, not only celebrates our legacy as expert silversmiths, but also reconnects us with a cherished part of our history and Liverpool’s heritage.

The trophy takes inspiration from the twisting double helix of DNA, which forms the cup’s striking shape. A molecular network sits at its core, while a steroid nucleus is engraved on the surface to symbolise Randox’s values and scientific achievement. A sweeping fine line across the cup references the Grand National finish line, representing determination, skill and pioneering spirit - qualities Randox value in their research.

Behind the design

It wouldn’t be a Boodles design without diamonds: ten accent the outer molecular engraving, with a small number 10 engraved beside the tenth carbon inside the cup, marking Randox’s ten-year sponsorship of the race. At the base, a deep red enamel dot set on malachite echoes the Randox logo and brand colours, completing the design.

Three miniature trophies will also be presented to the winning jockey, trainer and groom - a reminder that great achievements, in sport and in science, are never a solo effort, and that the same precision, innovation and care that inspires Randox’s work in preventative health is reflected in every detail of this trophy.

Grand National and Boodles

For many years, while we were still trading as ‘Boodle & Dunthorne’, we had the honour of designing and crafting the Grand National trophies for much of the 20th Century. The Grand National has been held at Aintree Racecourse, just a few miles outside Liverpool, since 1839. Given our reputation as silversmiths in the region, we were proud to be chosen to create these prestigious trophies. For our Chairman at the time, Anthony Wainwright, this was both a privilege and an important responsibility—an opportunity to showcase our craftsmanship on a grand stage. Now, Boodles’ return to designing the Grand National trophy feels like a full circle. With their headquarters still based in Liverpool, this opportunity not only celebrates Boodles’ legacy as expert silversmiths but also reconnects the jeweller to a cherished part of both its heritage and Liverpool’s history.
